Together with the EcoVision Lab at ETH Zurich, the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, MountaiNow and Outdooractive, ExoLabs develops an advanced deep learning approach for highly accurate snow depth estimations on a daily basis.

Main research partner
ETHZ EcoVision has a strong background in developing deep learning approaches for satellite image interpretation.
Examples include counting trees of sub-pixel size at a species-specific level in Sentinel 2 satellite images at country- scale and learning aerial image segmentation from online maps.
SLF
Research partner
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF belongs to the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape.
The research focuses on snow, its interaction with the atmosphere, the formation, movement and impact of snow avalanches and other mass movements, avalanche mitigation in view of integrated risk management, permafrost and mountain ecosystems.
MountaiNow
Implementation partner
MountaiNow is a next-generation platform for collecting and sharing outdoor information in real-time. To the user, it takes the form of a live map featuring geo-localized field conditions and hazards. Combining crowd-sourcing with Big Data analytics, this collaborative platform offers a new kind of information for improving outdoor safety and adapting to climate change.
